Not only is Poinciana getting a major new road in the form of the Poinciana Parkway, but the new SunRail extension to the area is going ahead.
SunRail currently includes a dozen stations covering the 31 miles from De Bary in Volusia County through to Orlando, but now $93million is being provided for a southern extension to Poincicna, where the terminus will be.
This will almost halve the journey time to Downtown Orlando from 35 minutes at present to just 20 minutes.
Government leaders at the Kissimmee Amtrak station this week signed a 10-foot-tall placard marking the federal grant, watched by more than 100 SunRail supporters. Therese McMillan, Acting Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration, told the Orlando Sentinel, “Ridership will grow, spurring more demand.”
Owners of Feltrim Group’s Tuscany Preserve at Lake Marion top-class real estate development, in Poinciana, will benefit from the improved transport network, says Chief Executive Officer, Garrett Kenny.
“The new rail and road networks will mean Poinciana home owners will have a choice of options when travelling into Downtown Orlando and many other Central Florida locations that will make it quicker and easier to get around.
“The advantage of SunRail is that property owners can just sit back, relax and let the train take the strain.”
Construction on the four new stations plus new track for the 17-mile extension, is due to begin in November. The route should be in use by December 2017, with 2,000 riders a day starting their journey on the southern leg, SunRail believes.
The grant awarded by the Federal Transit Administration amounts to half the overall cost of $186million. The rest comes from the state and Osceola and Orange counties.
Meanwhile, work on the Poinciana Parkway in Central Florida is ahead of schedule and is set to be finished by December 2016, almost six months ahead of schedule say highway chiefs in their September 2015 progress report.
The $150million, 9.6-mile toll road that will link Poinciana between Haines City and Kissimmee, to the main I-4 corridor, is well ahead of its projected May 2017 finish, says the Osceola County Expressway Authority.
